About Us

Little Linguists and The Language Shop were set up by me -Suzanne Snowdon - in 2005 following the birth of my second child. I come from a strong language learning background – my degree is in German and Spanish and I have the RSA DTEFLA diploma (teaching English as a Foreign language) – and a strong language teaching background. I have worked in EFL organisations in London and the South West and been Assistant Director of Studies of a language school in London. I have also worked abroad as a VSO teaching English to children in Guyana. In addition, I have worked in corporate language training in the City and West End of London – involving setting up and managing corporate language training for employees within a range of blue chip organisations as well as recruiting tutors and organising teacher training activities.

After the birth of my first child I worked locally at the University of Hertfordshire – lecturing in English grammar and phonology and also teaching English for Academic Purposes to overseas students. However once my second child came along the idea of commuting down the A1 did not appeal and I decided to work from home if I could – but without much of an idea of what to do.

Having had children, I got to know a lot of local mums and once the initial shock of having two small children had died down one of them suggested that I teach both them and their children Spanish. After a bit of thought I decided to go for it and haven’t really looked back – even though it hadn’t occurred to me to teach Spanish before. The enjoyment of teaching children never diminishes and their enthusiasm never ceases to amaze me. Little Linguists now teaches Spanish to children in five venues across Hertfordshire – with more in the pipeline - and is constantly expanding, we run sessions in day nurseries, pre-schools and primary schools and the number of children taking private tuition with us in all languages is always increasing. In addition to Little Linguists, I have also set up a tutoring agency in all languages called The Language Shop and we are now branching out into the corporate area – which is also extremely exciting given my background in this field.
